Cape Verde (port: Cabo Verde) - an island nation off the west coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean consists of a group of nine inhabited volcanic islands. The islands are semi-desert due to aridity. Many beaches and pleasant water temperatures between 22 and 27 °C make the islands a destination for bathing tourism. The once uninhabited islands were discovered and settled by the Portuguese in the 15th century, after which they were an important supply point for whalers and transatlantic ships. With the political upheaval in Portugal, the islands gained their independence in 1975.

The Cape Verde Islands have a mild oceanic climate similar to the Canary Islands. However, it is warmer and drier and has very little rainfall. The best time for a beach vacation is from the end of March to mid-August and from mid-October to mid-December. For surfers and surfers: the winter months, For hikers: November to May. The high season is June to mid-August.

Flights are currently bookable from November 2022 to June 2023 and from October to November 2023 - also directly from Zurich with Edelweiss Airlines. The international airports are located on the islands of Sal, Boavista, Santiago and São Vicente. There are currently no ferry connections from Europe or the African continent. Arriving by private vessels (sailing yachts), please note that entry is only possible through the ports of Sal, Praia and Mindelo.
